Nine Things You Should Be Watching This Halloween

Halloween is approaching and so are the dozens of movies and shows that feature silly mistakes and ridiculous scenarios that we’ve all come to know and love as the beloved “horror movie”. A few movies have become cult classics and whether you admit it or not, every year you grab your candy corn and park in front of the DVR to watch. These are my top “must-see” films and TV shows (in no particular order).

1. Halloweentown

Not only does this movie feature every single monster, creature, and menace that this holiday has to offer; but it teaches honesty, family over everything, and when your mom tells you not to celebrate Halloween-you ignore her. Halloween is yes.

2. Hocus Pocus

Two words: Bette Midler.
This is a classic, and I am a little judgmental of anyone who hasn’t taken the time to watch this. There’s a charming cat, romance, adventure, and a solid musical number.

3. Cry Wolf

This early 2000’s movie was, in my opinion, underrated. It might seem like another twisted and predictable thriller, but what sets it apart is the storyline. Bored rich kids make up a rumor about a killer who is coming for their school. They even come up with creative ways they would die; which ultimately backfires considering they start to die in the exact fashions they predicted. Or did they? There’s a solid plot twist at the end, and for once, the killer isn’t some absurd made-up creature or gruesome slasher.
Plus Jon Bon Jovi is in it. If that doesn’t spark your curiosity, not sure what does!

4. The Strangers

Okay. This is one of the only movies that actually scares me and I am a HUGE scary movie fan. Think about it, these people get scared senseless simply because they were home?! Who does that? It doesn’t help that the creepy record player is constantly playing a haunting number, or that the movie ends with an annoying cliffhanger. This is based off of a book, but the movie might just be all you need.

5. Scream

Not only Scream 1, but you should also watch Scream 2, 3, AND 4. Literally all of them are perfect. They’re smart, quick thrillers, that are easy to get sucked into. Sydney Prescott is one tough cookie. If you haven’t seen these, grab your popcorn and buckle up for ride like no other. You’ll be dying to see the others! (Pun slightly intended)

6. Harper’s Island

Harper’s Island is a mystery/thriller mini-series that was aired in 2009. It was crafty, scary, and left you wanting more at the end of each episode. It is like a great horror film mixed with your favorite detective book all wrapped up into a 13-episode only series. It was genius, and I find it underrated as well. Check it out for yourself.

7. Boy Meets World

Season 5. Episode 17.
Easily one of my favorite things in the world to watch. It is so funny; combining drama, with classic horror movie mistakes and a catchy jingle in the hallway. I’m laughing out loud just thinking about this perfect piece of television. Go watch it. Immediately. Maybe even a couple times.

8. American Horror Story

Seriously, any season will do. Ryan Murphy is a creative GENIUS and there is nothing else on TV like this. It’s a show that makes you think, and a show that gives you the creeps.

9. Paranormal Activity

Okay okay, I understand that this might be a bit of a cliché, but it is a delicious one. You don’t have to admit it, but these movies make you jump. These can either really frighten you, or make you laugh, but either way you’re entertained. Except the fifth one, that one is not even a little bit good.

That’s all for now. Happy Halloween, and happy watching!
