Ah, Pinterest.
At first, I didn’t understand the hype.
Then I didn’t want to participate just because “everyone else was” (I was just lazy).
It seemed over-complicated. Boards? Pins? Hearts? What?
Once you finally understand those terms then you gotta understand that you can click on the pins, share the pins, post your own pins, etc. So much pinning. The word pin doesn’t even sound like a word anymore, I’ve said it too many times.
I saw all of these articles about “Pinterest fails” (see for yourself) and that was 100% uninspiring.
I could name a thousand other reasons why I wasn’t going to try this new form of social media but one day, I had to write a paper for class and I needed to do my standard hour of procrastination before I actually started and Facebook wasn’t going to cut it, so I logged on. Just for fun, you know, just to see what everyone was talking about. It wasn’t a big deal or anything. Let’s call it…research.
Curiosity got the best of me.
Three hours later (spongebob voice)….oops.
Once you get really deep in there and truly grasp the art of pinteresting, you will discover so many wonderful things. So many dreams you didn’t know you had. So many inspiring people you didn’t know were out there. So many different ways to braid your hair. So many outfits you’ll never actually wear. So many recipes that are to die for but will never be made in your kitchen because you can’t be bothered so you just drool at your screen instead.
Don’t go thinking based off of what I’ve just said that Pinterest is only for the ladies, there are plenty of things on there for guys as well. I know that some of the men in my life use the site, so don’t be ashamed or embarrassed. Embrace it!
Believe it or not, Pinterest actually gave me some motivation and inspiration for my paper that day (well it was pretty much nighttime at that point). I studied parks and recreation (no, not like the tv show) and I’ve worked at a summer camp for years. I found so many games and projects and ideas for camp that I would have never discovered if not for my just-this-once log in to Pinterest.
I now have almost a dozen boards filled with pins that make me feel motivated and super hip. It’s like one big dream board. Pinterest can also help find internet secrets you never knew about, like finding cheap flights, best ways to pack a suitcase, how to shop with free shipping, and so on and so on. There are stories and photos from other people doing things you want to do, encouraging you to simply do them.
That was so cheesy.
Seriously though, it’s a pretty useful place to explore.
Anyways, I’m at the point in my life where I occasionally need a little extra motivation so I go to the internet for some positive reinforcement. I thought I’d share with you a piece of my guilty pleasure. If today is one of those days where you feel a little crummy, or just want someone to give you that extra push, some of these quotes are a nice pick me up.
Hopefully you can find some inspiration in them to go out and live your best life.
Thank you Pinterest.
I’ll send you off with my favorite quote of all time,
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you’ve imagined.”
